Esra Ozkan

Esra Ozkan is a curator, researcher, and cultural manager who specialises in AI and media art. Ozkan, who lives in Dubai, has more than 12 years of experience curating and managing cultural projects. She has planned and organised various exhibitions, seminars, and panels throughout Europe and Turkey. Since 2015, she has concentrated her curatorial practice on digital arts and has consistently produced shows in this genre. Ozkan’s areas of expertise include Digital Arts, Artificial Intelligence, and Bio-art. Esra’s current research, titled “A Study of Algorithmic Approaches in Art and Visual Culture of the 21st Century,” explores the impact of data-driven art through the lens of the Postdigital movement.

Esra holds degrees in plastic arts, art management, and philosophy. Between 2019 and 2020, she served as the curator for the technology section of the Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair. From 2019 to today, she was the Artistic Director of the Istanbul Digital Art Festival, leading the curatorial teams and directing exhibitions. From 2021 to 2023, Esra curated and directed Turkey’s first Digital Art Museum, X Media Art Museum, where she produced immersive exhibitions. Since 2022, she has been a member of the advisory board and a curator for Samsung Turkey. 


She is the co-founder of CapitArt-X, a women-led digital art initiative focused on international curatorial projects and art research, with a new media lab based in Istanbul.
