Prof. Dr. Paul Feigelfeld
Prof. Dr. Paul Feigelfeld is a cultural and media scholar, design researcher, and curator. He holds the position of Professor for Digital Cultures and Mediation at Mozarteum University Salzburg. Feigelfeld studied Cultural Studies and Computer Science at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he served as an assistant to Friedrich Kittler at the Chair for Aesthetics and History of Media until Kittler's passing in 2011.
From 2021 to 2024, he was a Professor for Cultures of Knowledge in the Digital Age at the Institute for Design Research at Braunschweig University of Art (HBK). He is currently a visiting professor at the Chair of Media Theories at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and also lectures at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Additionally, he has held roles at the Centre for Digital Cultures in Lüneburg and has taught internationally at institutions such as the Art University and University of Basel, the Strelka Institute in Moscow, the University of Vienna, and the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
His research focuses on transcultural approaches to media and the history of knowledge, as well as critical perspectives on technologies and their intersections with art and design. Outside of academia, Feigelfeld advises and collaborates with cultural institutions, including HKW Berlin, the Vitra Design Museum, and the MAK Museum of Applied Arts Vienna. Notably, he was the guest curator of the Vienna Biennale in 2019, where he curated the exhibition "Uncanny Values: Artificial Intelligence & You" at MAK.
